Ensuring equitable access to basic healthcare needs, education and employment opportunities is the key to help narrow the economic inequalities and take the country towards prosperity.

This entails ensuring infrastructure development of roads, ports, airports etc. coupled with entrepreneurship promotion through appropriate funding incentives, reducing regulatory barriers, creating supportive policies which will have a catalytic effect on economic development and help attract foreign investment.

Special emphasis on boosting agriculture productivity through adoption of modern farming techniques, irrigation systems, research and development is of fundamental importance. Encouraging alternatives to tobacco farming is important.

Efficient governance by overcoming bureaucratic red tapism and streamlining the processes by promoting transparency, ensuring accountability, and reducing corruption will help change the fundamental thinking of our citizens.

The wealth of a nation depends on the overall health of its citizens. Towards this end, the government must take concrete steps to reduce the use of tobacco products

increasing taxes, banning tobacco advertising, and setting up smoke free public spaces. Promoting healthy eating habits through awareness campaigns on balanced diet, use of fruits and vegetables, and on the ill effects of junk food will have a positive response. Encouraging the citizens to engage in physical activity by providing well equipped public spaces for exercise and recreation, and encouraging sports & physical activity in schools will reap immense benefit.

Encouraging the citizens to participate in the environment friendly efforts by promoting use of public transport system, cycling, and walking

will help reduce the carbon emissions and safeguard the environment. Plastic waste is a major environmental & health hazard and steps to promote eco-friendly alternatives – paper bags, cloth bags, biodegradable materials – will go a long way. The ban on single use plastics must be strictly enforced. The government should provide incentives for companies adopting sustainable practices and investing in renewable energy.
